The Ukrainian Ministry of Interior has opted to change eight of the ten H145 helicopters it has on order to the new five-bladed upgrade version, Airbus Helicopters announced on 5 March.

Under the intergovernmental agreement signed between France and Ukraine in mid-2018, Airbus Helicopters is set to deliver ten new H145s, eight of which will now be equipped with the five-bladed rotor. The agreement covers a total of 55 helicopters, including 21 repurposed H225s, 24 H125s and ten H145s.

The new five-blade bearingless rotor will increase the aircraft's useful load by 150kg and improve crew and passenger comfort. Other advantages from the upgrade include a smaller D-value, allowing the H145 to operate in more confined areas, simplified maintenance and increased availability.

The aircraft will be operated and maintained in Ukraine as the contract also forsees the setting up of a local training and maintenance centre. The aircraft will be used for SAR, public services and emergency medical service missions in the country.
