Texas Aviation Services (TAS), an industry leader in helicopter and aircraft completions for 37 years, recently delivered an American Eurocopter AS350B2 “flying production studio” to Hangar 5 Productions of Scottsdale, Arizona.

TAS worked closely with the owner of Hangar 5 Productions, Mr. Mitch Kelldorf, to configure a state of the industry high definition Hollywood production style studio in the sky. Hangar 5’s filming “niche” market is the southwest region to include but not limited to Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. They will film anywhere in the world.

The customization project included the latest Geneva Aviation systems incorporating an audio-video console between the crew seats allowing the camera and additional equipment to interface with the aircraft. Integrated into the 132 center console is the I-Touch I-Pod and secondary audio panel for the crew, camera man and/or DP (director of photography). The audio/video panel on the console provides power to the 15” Marshal “Sunbrite” Monitor and Astro Systems 3208 Wave Form/Vector Scope Monitor Display installed and mounted to the Dart/Geneva P165 system aft of the copilot seat. The 8.4” Marshal “Sunbrite” Monitor installed on the copilot’s side of the primary instrument panel provides easy access to the monitor’s contrast/color adjustments for both DP/camera operator and pilot. The audio/video panel on the console includes FM provisions as well as an input for a portable HD DVD player and aux power adapter. Also part of the production package is the portable Sony SRW1/SRPC1 HD video recorder and processor, the latest in the CineAlta product line, offering the full band width dual link 4:4:4 (RGB) VTR System capable of recording feature film work to commercials to standard video production. Hangar 5 Productions offers the most State of the Art HD Gyro Stabilized Camera Systems on the Market, the Axsys Technologies CineFlex V14 (contact: Alex Giuffrida).  Located inside the CineFlex System, on the end of a Meeker Pole Mount (designer: Cal Meeker/Meeker Aviation) is the new Sony 1500L HD Camera with multiple lens capabilities.

An avionics package consisting of dual Garmin 420Ws, a GMX-200 MFD with Traffic, GTX-330 Digital Transponder, GDL-69A Data Link for XM weather and radio, Avidyne Traffic Advisory System, Technisonic TFM 500, C406N-HM ELT with NAV and a Radar Altimeter for holding precise altitude heights below 100 feet added to the remarkable capabilities of this helicopter. Other enhancements included Integrated Flight Systems air-conditioning, Facet oil and fuel filter kits, Dart aft baggage door hinge mod and rear locker extender, Whelen LED lights and full length carbide skid shoes. Additionally, all factory installed windows were replaced with Tech Tool’s tinted windows, a fully articulating searchlight was mounted to the nose and dual sliding doors and hard points in the floor were fitted to harness a camera man with a hand held system for optimal exterior filming on either side of the aircraft.

The four passenger seats and two crew seats were upholstered with Aeristo Leather in “Alaska” gray with additional Temperpedic foam added to all the seats to maximize comfort and appearance. Black Loincoin with black carpet runners were installed throughout the cabin for durability and leather straps were integrated to the seats to store the crew and passenger seatbelts. The rear cabin bulkhead was covered in Izit Leather with a “Sabercat” Logo stitched into the center of the panel. Removable covers for the copilot’s collective, cyclic and torque pedals were also covered in matching loincoin. The exterior of the helicopter received a vivacious paint scheme that included a four foot “Sabercat” logo on both sides of the helicopter. TAS was honored to provide Hangar 5 Productions with this state of the art helicopter.

“Working with the TAS team far exceeded my expectations in quality, service and production,” commented Mitch Kelldorf. “A phenomenal job, above and beyond anything you could imagine. Anyone can give me a call and I would not hesitate to recommend TAS to do their completion.”
