Heli-Expo 2017: Heli-One continues to support Sikorsky
Coinciding with the commencement of Heli-Expo 2017, Heli-One has announced the launch of its campaign to promote the continued maintenance support of the Sikorsky S-61 aircraft.
The Supporting the Legacy campaign aims to extend the life of the helicopter, and covers nose-to-tail offerings that include all levels of inspections and checks, dynamics, airframes, hydraulics and avionics.
The Canada-based helicopter MRO service provider has supported the S-61 for more than 40 years, offering over 200 proprietary repairs and upgrade modifications for both utility missions and active military deployment.
The company claims to have hundreds of innovative repairs to save parts typically deemed beyond economical repair. It also provides modernisation projects and an Engine Accessory Workshop, which services CT58 engine accessories with quick turnaround times.
In addition to this announcement, Heli-One has developed an upgrade for the S-92 platform of the same OEM, designed to enhance safety and situational awareness.
The external operations visual monitoring upgrade features two tail boom-mounted cameras that monitor the engine and cargo door operations in real time. Two additional cameras can be mounted for visibility over hoist and cargo hook operations.
The live video feeds of critical external views will positively impact crew and passenger safety, according to Anthony DiNota, president at Heli-One.
'The additional views offer pilots greater situational awareness upon landing, facilitating more efficient operations with ground crew. This simple solution was necessitated by our unwavering organizational goal to uphold the highest standards of safety in the industry,' he said.
The camera feeds can be shown on any of the five multi-function display units on the cockpit, and pilots can toggle between views. The cameras function even in low light conditions and a video recorder with audio is also part of the enhanced package.
Heli-One's focus on expanding operational capability and extending the longevity of aircraft –evidenced by the Supporting the Legacy campaign and the S-92 upgrade – is facilitated by the company's design teams in Canada and Norway, which can design and certify a range of major and minor repair solutions worldwide.
