US Navy outlines shipyard upgrade plans

The US Navy is preparing to conduct what planners describe as a ‘once-in-a-century’ upgrade of its public shipyards to facilitate service logistics support to current and future generations of naval vessels.

According to a recent ‘special notice’ released by the Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command, on behalf of the Program Manager Ships 555, the shipyard upgrades are incorporated under the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program (SIOP).
