US Army orders M997A3 ambulances
AM General has received a $185 million order from the US Army Contracting Command to deliver 648 M997A3 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) ambulances, the company announced on 9 April.
As part of its partnership with the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (JMTC) at Rock Island Arsenal, AM General will begin providing the first chassis systems to JMTC in spring 2019, where the ambulance shelter fabrication and final assembly will be carried out.
The M997A3 is an ambulance configuration of the HMMWV vehicle equipped with advanced armour protection. The ambulance is capable of transporting up to four litter patients, eight ambulatory patients—or a combination of both—as well as medical personnel, equipment and a driver.
The first M997A3 ambulance deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2019.
