Time for an M109A8?

Maybe it's too soon to start calling it an M109A8, but the latest request for information (RFI) from the US Army's Project Manager for Self-Propelled Howitzer Systems certainly opens that possibility.

Officially titled M109A7 Self-Propelled Howitzer Extended Range Cannon Artillery (Engineering Change Proposal), the RFI seeks information on industry capabilities 'to satisfy the Product Manager - Self Propelled Howitzer Systems' (PM-SPHS) requirement for integration of an Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) capability into the M109A7 self propelled howitzer.'
