Terma wins A-10 3D-Audio contract
Terma North America is to equip US military A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft with its 3D-Audio/Active Noise Reduction (ANR) system, the company announced on 28 October.
Under a $60 million contract the aircraft audio management system will replace legacy audio management systems on US Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve Command and Air Combat Command aircraft.
The contract covers qualification, full and complete aircraft integration, installation drawing updates, technical order updates, repair support, spares and support equipment, with work to be complete by 2024.
The combat-proven 3D-Audio system provides enhancement of the pilot’s situational awareness, survivability, and reduction of workload by presenting audio warnings/cues and radio messages in a full 360-degree spherical representation. This capability enables the pilot to get the dynamically updated warning tone/cue in the true direction of the threat and spatially separating radio communication for increased speech intelligibility. The system also provides ANR and electrical noise reduction for reduced pilot stress and fatigue.
