Surface Navy 2019: Navy official concerned over US shipbuilding and maintenance base

Although the annual Surface Navy Association event in Washington, DC brings with it much interest in new ships such as the FFG(X) and new large surface combatants there is still room for improvement of the maintenance of the US Navy’s current fleet.

At the moment the growth rate for the demand for maintenance is outpacing the rate at which the US’ industrial base is growing, noted ADM Christopher Grady, commander, US Fleet Forces Command, US Naval Forces Northern Command.

Grady noted that ‘75% of our fighting force today is what we will fight with in 2030.'
