Spain gets first A400M
Spain has taken delivery of its first A400M airlifter in a ceremony at the A400M final assembly line in Seville, Airbus Defence and Space announced on 17 November.
With the delivery Spain will become the sixth nation to put the A400M into service. It will replace the C-130 aircraft, with the capacity to carry double the load over the same distance. It has the capacity to serve as a tactical air-to-air tanker for other aircraft, including other A400Ms, can transport troops and equipment over long ranges, and operate from short and unprepared airstrips.
Spain has ordered 27 A400M. Fourteen will be delivered to Spain between 2016 and 2022 and the remaining 13 are to be delivered from 2025 onwards.
The A400M fleet will be based at Zaragoza in North East Spain where it will provide the heavy lift element of a transport force including the CN235 and C295, and light C212 aircraft.
