Singapore Airshow 2018: Singapore anticipates first MRTT

After the initial A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft performed its maiden flight on 30 September, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is looking forward to its arrival later this year.

Singapore ordered six aircraft from Airbus Defence & Space in 2014 and the first unit will arrive before the air force’s 50th anniversary on 1 September.

This fleet of MRTTs will replace the four KC-135 Stratotankers currently in service.

The RSAF examples enjoy technological advances that reduce the crew from four to three compared to incumbent MRTTs in service with other nations.

They feature new avionics, an advanced aerial refuelling console, aerodynamic improvements and structural modifications. The position of a mission coordinator has been abolished on RSAF MRTTs.
