SAS 2017: Marine Corps explores simplified water treatment

The US Marine Corps displayed its new Individual Water Purification System (IWPS), which will allow troops to get safe, drinkable water straight from the source, at this week's Navy League Sea-Air-Space Exposition outside Washington DC.

According to Capt Jeremy Walker, an action officer at Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), the US Marine Corps had carried an Individual Purification System (IPS) 'Block 1' since around 2005. That system is a two stage process, requiring both a chemical pre-treatment and then filtering process.
