New owners of Appledore shipyard are on target for January 2021 opening, as they look to shake up the UK maritime sector

The closure of Appledore shipyard in mid-2019 marked a sad end to a site that had seen naval and maritime manufacturing carried out for 160 years, and appeared to hammer another nail into the coffin of the UK’s once-proud shipbuilding industry. 

Fast forward to August 2020 and its rescue at the hands of Infrastrata, the company that half a year earlier had purchased the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, has seen a new contender emerge in the UK maritime landscape.
