Over $230 million of ANA supplies unaccounted for

Over two-thirds of the more than $370 million of spares the Afghan National Army (ANA) has ordered since 2004 to maintain and repair vehicles cannot be traced.

A report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) published in October found that the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan (CSTC-A) organisation, which uses the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme to buy spares for the ANA ‘could not account for approximately $230 million worth of spare parts’.

Furthermore, because the lack of knowledge about the precise levels of inventory, the CSTC-A ordered additional spare parts worth more than $138 million.
