NSPA orders first optional follow-on A330 MRTT
Airbus announced on 28 September that it has received a firm order for another A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft from the NATO Support & Procurement Agency (NSPA), via OCCAR.
The order follows the decision from Luxembourg to maximise its participation in the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) programme, by increasing its number of contracted flight hours from 200 to 1,200.
MMF members (Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway) are already committed to operating eight A330 MRTTs, but the latest order is part of a three-aircraft additional option that was included in the original contract.
According to Shephard Defence Insight, the total cost for the procurement of the three follow-on aircraft is estimated to be around $900 million.
