Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has signed a contract with Patria Land Systems to modernise and expand the Finnish Defence Force's Leguan bridge layer fleet.

The contract will be carried out in 2019 and 2020.

The project will give Finland the additional ability to lay short Leguan bridges, modernising all systems with respect to performance and future viability. The country has also ordered equipment packages and support for the construction of four more new Leguan systems with the Leopard 2 chassis.

The Leguan bridge layer system can lay a single 26m bridge or two separate 14m bridges. It can also be used for civilian purposes, such as for the fast restoration of supply routes after natural catastrophes.
