Indian Army wants bridges to cross

The Indian Army wants to equip its engineers with a mechanically launched modular bridging system to support the movement of tanks and other heavy combat vehicles during combat.

Shephard has learned that the army has a projected requirement for a tactical bridging system to span obstacles up to 50m wide in less than two hours.

The bridging system the army is looking for should be able to support vehicles weighing up to 60t, officials familiar with the plan said.

Apart from keeping combat forces highly mobile, modular bridges could also be used to replace damaged infrastructure during disaster relief.
