The aircraft will enhance the Seychelles’ coastal and maritime surveillance capabilities throughout its extensive Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

This is the second Do-228 aircraft to be gifted to the Seychelles. The first was delivered in January 2013. The aircraft will be operated by the Seychelles Air Force; personnel have already been trained on its operation and maintenance.

The aircraft is equipped with a combination of 360° surveillance radar, forward looking infra-red system, satellite communication, traffic collision and avoidance system and enhanced ground proximity warning system.

The Do-228 is a high wing monoplane with a cantilevered wing and two turboprop engines in wing-mounted pod designed for multipurpose utility such as EEZ monitoring, maritime surveillance, pollution monitoring and control, SAR and commuter services.  The cockpit is designed to accommodate two crew members and is fitted with duplicate controls.
