Goodrich Corporation announced today that it has been selected by Embraer to provide the primary flight control system for the new Embraer KC-390 jet transport aircraft. Under the agreement, Goodrich will design and manufacture a new, fully-integrated, fly-by wire, primary flight control system comprising state of the art electro-hydrostatic actuators (EHAs), electro-backup hydrostatic actuators (EBHAs), actuator electronics and electrical controls.

"This agreement represents a great opportunity to apply Goodrich's innovative technology and to significantly broaden the relationship with Embraer," said Mike Gardiner, president of Goodrich's Actuation Systems business.

With over 50 years experience Goodrich is the market leader in the supply of fault tolerant flight controls and can deliver complete systems across a wide range of integrated technology options including hydraulic, fly-by-wire and power-by-wire controls.

Goodrich will develop and deliver the system through the joint efforts of its Actuation Systems business, Engine Control & Electrical Power Systems business and the Goodrich Electronic Systems Center.

Faster than its competitors, the KC-390 aircraft will be capable of operating from short and semi-prepared runways in challenging environments worldwide. In addition to troop and cargo transportation its mission capability also includes in-flight refueling, search and rescue and medical evacuation. The KC-390 reinforces Embraer's commitment to conceive a state-of-the-art aircraft that will exceed requirements and overall market expectations.
