Germany orders more Trakkers

18th January 2021 - 10:45 GMT | by The Shephard News Team

More than 1,000 trucks could be provided by 2028 under new contract between Iveco and BAAINBw.

The German Army is to receive up to 1,048 Trakker protected 8x8 military trucks from Italian manufacturer Iveco Defence Vehicles, under a new contract announced on 15 January.

These vehicles were ordered by German defence procurement agency BAAINBw under the Geschützte Transportfahrzeuge (GTF) programme.

The GTF-8x8 (ZLK 15t) vehicles will be delivered from 2021 to 2028, with the first batch comprising 224 trucks in five configurations prepared for transport in 20ft ISO containers.

All the vehicles will comply with EURO 6 emission regulations and they will also be equipped with an armoured cab for ballistic, mine, NBC and IED protection.

Some of the vehicles will be fitted with hydraulic cranes and winch systems.

The value of the deal was undisclosed. It follows an order from BAAINBw in late 2015 to provide 133 armoured Trakker 8x8s from 2016-2019.

According to Shephard Defence Insight, the Trakker range includes tractors, general troop/cargo carriers and special wheeled chassis in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 configurations.
