GD NASSCO awarded Harpers Ferry maintenance work
General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding (NASSCO) will carry out phased maintenance availability on the US Navy’s USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) landing ship dock.
The company will carry out the work under a $98 million contract awarded by US Naval Sea Systems Command.
The scheduled maintenance will include work to maintain, modernise and repair Harpers Ferry.
The Harpers Ferry class is a later variant of the Whidbey Island class, designed for the transport and disembarkation of heavy equipment and the logistics of supplies in amphibious warfare.
The work will be complete in December 2020.
