Axles help US Army shoulder EU regulations load

A contract award for a redesigned semitrailer for the US Army’s Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) has helped the US Army Europe avoid a collision with European road regulations.

The contract with a maximum value of $109.8 million was awarded at the end of May to Oshkosh and Dutch partner Broshuis BV to produce 170 semitrailers for US Army Europe in response to an operational needs statement (ONS).

A new semitrailer design was required to comply with EU road permissions while balancing with the increased load capacity of vehicles.
