PZL Mielec has delivered an M28 short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft to the Ecuadorian Army, the company announced on 5 September.

The delivery is part of a contract awarded to the company in April 2018.

The twin-engined turboprop will meet the Ecuadorian Army’s need for a multi-role transport aircraft that can perform in diverse climates and terrain.

The aircraft weighs 7,500kg and can accommodate 19 passengers or transport up to 2,300kg of cargo, as well as perform parachute missions via the rear cabin door. The M28 can operate from any type of runway or airstrip and can fly in extreme environmental conditions and temperatures ranging from +50°C to -50°C.

The aircraft can be used for both commercial and military missions including passenger transport, parachutist training, border patrol and supervision over fisheries.

PZL Mielec has also carried out training for army pilots and mechanics in Poland.
