PZL Mielec has signed an agreement to provide an M28 short takeoff and landing transport aircraft to the Ecuador Army, the company announced on 16 May.

The M28 is a 7,500kg aircraft that can be fitted with 19 passenger seats and carry up to 2,300kg of cargo. The aircraft can also conduct parachuting missions from the cabin’s rear clamshell doors. The twin turboprop aircraft will enhance the army’s multi-role transport capabilities.

Adam Schierholz, regional executive for Latin America, Sikorsky, said: ‘The M28 aircraft’s unique flight and performance attributes are ideally suited for Ecuador’s diverse climate and terrain. We are providing Ecuador a proven platform that will accomplish a wide range of national security missions.

‘With the ability to operate from any type of runway or airstrip inaccessible by other airplanes, and to fly in extreme environmental conditions without decreasing payload, the M28 brings formidable capabilities.’

The aircraft is scheduled for delivery in later 2018.
