Desert Rats to oversee UK drawdown

The British Army’s 7th Armoured Brigade – also known as the Desert Rats – will deploy to Afghanistan to accelerate the UK military drawdown effort as the Afghan National Army takes over operations.

The brigade will deploy in September as part of Operation Herrick 19 – an eight-month tour that is two months longer than previous deployments and will not end until June 2014.

During this period the brigade’s logistics elements, including 2 Logistics Support Regiment of the Royal Logistics Corp (RLC) and 32 Regiment Royal Engineers, will close most of the remaining forward operating bases (FOBs) in Helmand
