Defence IT 2012: MoD on course to majority contractor support

The UK’s defence industry has an opportunity to test the MoD’s ‘appetite’ to provide more than 60% contractor-led platform support solutions to the armed forces, the Defence Information Technology conference has heard.

According to Richard Hamber, DHd Defence Logistics Strategy and Policy, ACDS, current plans will see such a change implemented by 2017. Currently two out of five personnel operating in Afghanistan as part of the wider NATO mission were civilians.

‘Industry is expected to recruit people who are not averse to deploying and might even consider joining the reserves,’ Hamber stated.
