QinetiQ North America (QNA) has received a $41 million contract from General Atomics (GA) to support delivery of the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) to the US Navy, the company announced on 23 March.

The new contract builds on the initial contract announced in December 2015 to engineer control hardware and software for EMALS and the AAG. Under this definitized contract the company will deliver equipment for installation on the US Navy's next aircraft carrier, the future John F Kennedy (CVN 79).

QNA has supported GA and the US Navy by providing the hardware and software for the EMALS launch control system as well as control hardware and software for the AAG system, both of which were developed for and installed on the pre-commissioning unit Gerald R Ford (CVN 78).

Andrew Courier, director of maritime systems at QNA, said: 'EMALS and AAG will provide the US Navy with superior technology that will increase reliability, improve operational efficiencies and significantly decrease lifecycle costs.'
