China preps ‘logistics base’ in Djibouti
Chinese ships and troops departed the port of Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province on 11 July, destined for a new so-called ‘logistics facility’ that Beijing is currently building in Djibouti in the Horn of Africa.
During a send-off ceremony, the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) commander VAdm Shen Jinlong announced a new command was being established in Djibouti to manage what Xinhua called a ‘support base’.
It was not revealed when the base will formally commence operations.
The two-ship task force comprised the Type 071 landing platform dock Jinggangshan and semi-submersible auxiliary ship Donghaidiao. Officials did not state how many troops
