BAE Systems has received a $78.8 million contract for the maintenance and modernisation of the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, USS Shoup, the company announced on 2 January.

The contract also includes options, which if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to $87.6 million.

The depot maintenance availability contract will see BAE Systems dry-dock the ship, perform underwater hull preservation work, upgrade the ship’s Aegis combat system and C2 equipment and rehabilitate crew habitability spaces.

The work is expected to begin in March 2019 and be completed in May 2020.
