The Australian DoD has appointed a managing contractor to lead improvements to naval facilities in Sydney that will support the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN’s) new warships when they enter service from next year.

The DoD told Shephard on 19 July that Baulderstone, a building and engineering firm, has been contracted for A$25 million.

Baulderstone will manage the A$109.9 million Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) and A$60.3 million Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) Ship Sustainment Facility projects. The LHDs – at 27,800t and 231 m-long – will be the largest ships ever operated by the RAN.
