Aging infrastructure challenges fleet readiness

The commander of the US Navy's Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC) has outlined a range of challenges casting a shadow over fleet readiness, including an aging depot infrastructure.

Rear Admiral Mike Zarkowski was speaking on a Depot Maintenance panel at this week’s 2016 DoD Maintenance Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

‘Our mission is 18,000 engineers, logisticians, managers, artisans, contractor personnel working to provide readiness to the naval forces,’ he began. ‘And when I say “naval” that’s United States Marine Corps and United States Navy.’

Under what he described as ‘a relatively new construct’ following the 2006 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC)
