Future of UK shipyard hanging by a thread

Troubled Belfast-based marine engineering and former shipbuilding company Harland and Wolff (H&W) is running out of time to secure its future, days after the site was placed into administration.

Although H&W was named as a potential site by two of the three bid teams competing for the UK’s Type 31e frigate programme, its lack of shipbuilding activity since the turn of the millennium raised questions as to how it would fare with such complex builds.
