The US Helicopter Safety Team (USHST) has completed its analysis and published a report on the root causes of fatal helicopter accidents, and has identified new measurable safety enhancements to reduce fatalities, it was announced on 27 September.

The report provides details of 18 proposed safety enhancements, along with expected implementers, potential obstacles, future actions and a proposed timetable.

The proposed safety enhancements are divided into four categories, including IMC and visibility, loss of control, safety management, and competency.

Work on the safety enhancements will target four specific sectors of the industry, namely, personal/private, air ambulance, commercial, and aerial application.

Teams of industry and government safety experts will now be formed for each proposed enhancement, with work in each area expected to be carried out over one to four years.
