Save this for later

Airbus Helicopters Germany and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have jointly developed the BK117 D-3 (H145) helicopter and the first customer in receipt of the aircraft will be Central Helicopter Service.

The operator currently has ten BK117 within its inventory and operates the aircraft for EMS, disaster prevention and VIP transportation missions throughout Japan.

The differential feature of the D-3 model, compared with its predecessor the D-2, will have a 150kg increase in useful load with a five main rotorblade system and shortened maintenance downtime.

It will retain the wide clamshell doors at the rear and low noise level capability. It is a ten-person helicopter with a MTOW 3,800kg.

Kawasaki has delivered 178 of the twin-engine aircraft as of early March 2019.
