Humberside SAR base completes 500th mission
The HM Coastguard Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter base operated by Bristow Helicopters at Humberside Airport in the UK has completed its 500th mission, Bristow announced on 14 June.
The Humberside base is a purpose-built facility that is one of ten SAR bases located across the country operated by Bristow. The base has a team of 30 crew members, including pilots and specialist winchman paramedics, winch operators, engineers and support staff.
The SAR base provides life-saving support to the fishing and other marine industries and the offshore energy sector, as well as to land-based incidents including missing persons and other medical emergencies.
Chris Gibbins, chief technical crewman, said: ‘Reaching 500 missions is a major milestone for our team - on average we are scrambled to assist in a search and rescue call every day-and-half. Our focus is always on bringing people home safely from a search and rescue operation, dedicating ourselves to year-round training and living up to the incredibly high standard that the UK SAR service has been renowned for delivering for over 70 years.’
Bristow began operating the UK’s SAR helicopter service on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency In 2015, after winning the tender in 2013. The service is provided with a fleet of AW189 and S-92 helicopters.
