Honeywell’s Aspire 200 satellite communications system has been awarded a Supplemental Type Certificate by the FAA for two additional aircraft, the company announced on 25 October.

The certification clears the system for installation on the Airbus Helicopters AS350 and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk.

Along with onboard Wi-Fi, the system provides video transmission and telemedicine capability for helicopters. Combined with the SwiftBroadband High-Data Rate software package, it brings high-bandwidth connectivity to the helicopter cabin while allowing the pilot or operator to mitigate any signal connectivity issues.

The system was recently certificated by EASA for installation on the Leonardo AW139 helicopter. Honeywell has applied for FAA certification for the Bell 429, while Transport Canada has already awarded the certification for this aircraft.

Aspire 200 is complemented by Honeywell's GoDirect Cabin Connectivity service. This includes access to a selection of GoDirect apps, such as GoDirect Satcom Toolkit and GoDirect Global Mobile Data, allowing productivity with real-time communications via access to emails, videoconferencing and higher-speed broadband transmission.
