Helitech 2018: Kopter’s flight testing switches to Sicily
In a bold play in the midst of the company’s SH09 trials and platform testing, Kopter has opted to move flight testing programme from Switzerland to Italy.
The move has been calculated and long thought out but Kopter thinks that the flight test programme, which is soon to commence in Sicily, will be more constructive in the long run for the flight envelopes which need to be met at the operational stages.
Andreas Löwenstein, CEO of Kopter Group, explained: ‘We have taken the decision, and this has been lengthily prepared in the company, to switch from a Swiss-based flight-testing operation to an Italy-based flight test operation.
‘So, we will, in the coming weeks, shift our flight-testing operation to Sicily, because we have in Sicily the possibility to fly in a very concentrated, dense manner with teams which will work there equally in a very concentrated manner,’ he commented.
Löwenstein added that this move will accelerate the flight testing and subsequently, the certification flight testing programme. ‘The prototype three will be joined by the P4 sometime at the beginning of next year, and the two aircraft together will do the certification flight.’
