Los Angeles County Fire Department operates a number of Firehawk helicopters, based on the Black Hawk military helicopter, to fight fires and perform other key roles including medevac and firefighter transport.

LA County recently announced that it would take on an additional two helicopters, based on the S-70i, which will feature similar modifications to the existing S-70A airframes, including a 3,785l water tank, specially modified landing gear and a cockpit-layout optimised for single crew operations.

Shephard spoke with one of the services' senior pilots to discuss how the helicopter is being used during operations and what the new S-70i will bring to the fleet.
