IAF tests autonomic airdrop system

11th January 2019 - 16:57 GMT | by The Shephard News Team

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) is upgrading its capabilities and integrating an autonomic airdrop system that enables airdropped cargo to direct itself towards ground forces, the IAF announced on 10 January.

Over the past two months, the IAF has concluded a series of tests of a combat airdrop system. The test series included several nine-hour-long flights, with a total of 18 airdrops performed.

During testing the IAF dropped the autonomic airdrop from high altitude. The parachute opened and the system directed the equipment successfully.

The IAF uses the C-130H and C-130J aircraft for air drop missions to deliver essential equipment to forces in the field.
