Cost increases add further woes to UK air re-fuelling and transport capability

The UK’s Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) programme has recorded a net cost increase of £257 million over the last year while the A400M transport aircraft programme has seen a £163 million increase.

In the National Audit Office’s (NAO’s) annual Major Projects Report for 2012 published on 8 January, it was revealed that these two programmes along with the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier contributed to a total cost increase in the UK MoD’s top 16 acquisition projects of £468 million for 2011-12.
