The US Army has awarded a contract for the delivery of more than 948 Caster Assisted A-Series Delivery System (CAADS) units to enhance airborne operations at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the army announced on 28 August.

The systems will be used by the 82nd Airborne Division (AD) at Fort Bragg.

CAADS is a new door bundle dolly system that has been in development and testing since early 2018. Modelled after a similar door bundle system used by French airborne forces, CAADS is specifically designed to increase the number of door bundles that can be rapidly deployed from a transport aircraft while reducing deployment time.

Cpt Colton Crawford, 82nd AD parachute officer, said: ‘The acquisition of the CAADS for the 82nd Airborne Division will help reduce jumper fatigue as well as triple the amount of supplies and equipment on a drop zone simultaneously with paratroopers exiting an aircraft.'
