LIMA 2019: RMAF focuses on MRO out of necessity

The Malaysian government put a positive gloss on LIMA 2019 in Langkawi, stating that MYR3.67 billion’s ($913.8 million) worth of deals was concluded. These included ten letters of agreement with foreign companies, but these were generally for MRO work to be done by local subsidiaries or partners.

The fact is that the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is cash-strapped, and the best way of maintaining it is through preserving in-service equipment.

Gen Affendi Buang, Chief of the RMAF, admitted in June 2018 that 40% of air force platforms need immediate upgrading.
