The first KC-46A tanker aircraft scheduled for delivery to the US Air Force (USAF) has successfully completed its first flight and airborne testing, Boeing announced on 5 December.

The KC-46A tanker took off from Paine Field in Washington for a test flight that lasted for three hours and 30 minutes. The aircraft is due for delivery to the USAF next year.

Operational checks on engines, flight controls and environmental systems were performed as part of the Federal Aviation Administration-approved flight profile. Test pilots will conduct a post-flight inspection and calibrate instrumentation of the aircraft prior to subsequent flights.

The KC-46A is a multirole tanker that can refuel all allied and coalition military aircraft compatible with international aerial refueling procedures and can carry passengers, cargo and patients.
