BAE Systems Australia has been selected to manage the Asia-Pacific Regional Warehouse of F-35 Lightning IIprogramme, the Australian Department of Defence (DoD) announced on 19 August.

The warehouse will be based at RAAF Base Williamtown, near the F-35 airframe depot maintenance facility for the South Asia-Pacific - also assigned to BAE Systems Australia in December 2014.

According to the DoD, the warehouse will provide spare parts to all operational units in the region, including Joint Strike Fighter squadrons from Australia and visiting squadrons on deployment from other parts of the world.

The new assignment is estimated to represent more than AUD$300 million ($237 million) value to Australian industry in operations and infrastructure investments over the life of the F-35 programme.

This announcement follows Australia’s recent success in securing Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and Upgrade for 64 out of 65 available F-35 components in the first tranche of component repair assignments.
