Rheinmetall has received an order from Liebherr-Werk Ehingen for protected driver’s cabs and crane cabs for a new generation of crane vehicles being built for the German Army, the company announced on 15 September.

Starting in 2018, Rheinmetall will supply 71 protected driver’s cabs and crane operator cabs for 38 newly developed G-LTM protected mobile cranes, and another 33 for the new G-BKF protected recovery crane vehicle.

Deliveries will be complete by 2021.

The driver’s cab is designed to protect the crew from ballistic threats as well as landmine and IED blasts. The cab also features an NBC filtration system. Both cabins for the G-LTM and G-BKF are identical in design.

The G-LTM is a four-axle mobile crane with a 35.7m telescopic boom and a recovery winch at the rear.

The G-BKF is an armoured recovery crane equipped to hoist loads and recover vehicles. Its 20.9m telescopic boom enables the G-BKF to handle loads up to 20 tonnes. Its two recovery winches and towing device at the rear enable it to recover and tow a wide range of different vehicles.
