QinetiQ has taken delivery of an Airbus H125 helicopter for the Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS) at the UK Ministry of Defence’s Boscombe Down site in Wiltshire, the company announced on 23 March.

The helicopter has entered into service under the QinetiQ Civil Flying Organisation (QCFO) alongside the new Grob 120TP fixed-wing aircraft.

The school will also receive its new Pilatus PC-21 aircraft later this year. In the coming months, ETPS instructors will conduct a programme of flights using all the new aircraft, in the UK and Switzerland, to build their experience and develop exercises for the 2019 course and beyond.

The ETPS is the first training school in the UK able to provide test pilots with course completion certificates needed to obtain civil Flight Test Ratings in compliance with new EASA regulations.

Nick Lay, operations director, QinetiQ, said: ‘We are making great strides in our strategy to set a new benchmark for Test Aircrew Training capability worldwide.

'The QCFO will complement the new aircraft by enabling us to use them to the greatest possible effect, as well as making ETPS courses available to customers who have never previously had access.'
