Rockwell Collins’ integrated Level D helicopter dome-based complete visual system has been selected by Coptersafety for civil helicopter pilot training, the company announced on 5 September.

Rockwell Collins will provide multiple EP-8100 image generators, 4K ultra-high resolution, liquid crystal over silicon laser-illuminated projectors; a 240° by 80° motion-compatible dome display, night vision goggle capability and additional channels for camera systems, vertical reference window and cargo mirrors; and an enhanced vision system.

In addition to the EP-8100’s better image quality and high resolution, the system also features the Whole Earth synthetic environment – a very high resolution complete Earth database that includes new enhanced three dimensional sea-state modelling.

Deliveries are currently underway to Coptersafety’s training facility in Helsinki, Finland, and two of the systems have already been certified by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency.
