Ukraine, Turkey to jointly build An-188

Ukraine and Turkey have teamed up to implement a joint project to build Antonov An-188 military transport aircraft, Ukroboronprom announced on 3 May.

The project involves westernisation of all components, implementation of modern and reliable technical solutions, as well as full compliance with NATO standards, both in terms of equipment and the use of the aircraft.

The An-188 will have a carrying capacity of up to 50t. The aircraft will be capable of carrying all kinds military equipment, construction equipment, helicopters, up to 300 soldiers, as well as humanitarian cargo, pallets and containers.

The aircraft can deploy from airfields including air strips and will be able to land on runways as short as only 600-800m in length.

The project will also involve the use of modern cost-effective turbojet engines that will provide high speed and significant flight range.
