The Royal Canadian Air Force 8 Wing Trenton has become the first location to receive new Aerial Fire Fighting Vehicles (AFFVs) from Aréo-Feu, it was announced on 6 December.

Aréo-Feu was awarded an CAD$18.7 million contract to deliver nine vehicles in June 2016. The final vehicle is expected to be delivered in April 2018, with an option to purchase three more vehicles.

The AFFVs will provide firefighting capabilities, rescue and casualty evacuation to a height of 35 metres. The truck features a casualty recovery platform and will be deployed to fight fires across Canadian military bases and wings, including fires in ammunition and fuel containment areas.

Harjit S Sajjan, Canadian Defence Minister, said: ‘Modernising the equipment the Canadian armed forces rely on to do their jobs is a key priority for the government of Canada. I am pleased to see that the new AFFV is being delivered to bases and wings across the country.’
