FN Herstal develops test unit for airborne weapon pods

5th October 2020 - 09:59 GMT | by The Shephard News Team

FN Herstal has launched a new test unit for aircraft weapon pods.

Designed to offer an optimised level of integration, operational capability and maintenance on rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft, FN D-Pod TU comprises three complementary modules.

These are the FN D-Pod EMU (pictured), which is designed to emulate the speed and behaviour of the pod and its weapons; FN D-AMS EMU (a digital armament management system emulator); and the FN D-MNT APP digital maintenance application.

FN D-Pod TU is ‘an integral part of FN Herstal’s airborne digital suite for fixed forward-firing weapon systems’, the Belgian company announced on 1 October. This suite includes the FN D-Pod with 50cal FN M3P machine gun and optional 3x2.75-inch rocket launcher; the advanced FN D-HUD (Digital Head Up Display) sighting solution; and the FN D-PC armament management system for digital pods and rocket launchers.
