Austal completes acceptance EPF-9 trials

Austal has successfully completed acceptance trials on USNS City of Bismarck Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF-9), the company announced on 3 November.

The trials on the 338ft Spearhead-class EPF completed on 20 October in the Gulf of Mexico.During the trials, the vessel underwent comprehensive tests to demonstrate the successful operation of its major systems and equipment to the US Navy.

City of Bismarck is scheduled for delivery to the US Navy later this year and is the ninth ship in Austal’s 12-ship EPF contract valued at over $1.9 billion. The four remaining ships under Austal’s contract are currently under construction.

The Spearhead class EPF is designed to provide high-speed, high-payload transport capability. The vessel’s large, open mission deck and large habitability spaces enable it to be used for a wide range of missions from engagement and humanitarian assistance to disaster relief missions.
